Smothered

I thought I was loving you, but
I lost who I was.
I didn't have a voice,
I was smothered by you.

I didn't spend time with friends,

I forgot what I liked to do.

I spent all my time with you,

because I was smothered by you.

Now I know it isn't wrong to have a voice,

It isn't wrong to have friends other than you.

It is OK to have my own time to do what I like,

I don't want to be smothered by you any more.

I want you to understand,

I want you to see my courage to change.

I want you to recognize your problems and change too,

I don't want to be smothered by you.

I do love you.

I do want to spend my life with you.

I do want us to both be healthy,

but I can't do that and be smothered by you.

so many of us wives have felt this way, we enter the relationship giving ourselves completely away. after a while we become empty and almost lonely becuz we nolonger remember who we are. although we sometimes blame the one we are with for our emptiness, we need to remember we are also to blame for giving it up. But it is never too late to become the dream you've always wanted to be. just remember we dont need to leave our family behind to do it, like so many people to, we can incorporate them into our new found positive activies. Unless they cant see the new beauty within you.

I am making changes, but unfortunately my husband doesn't like it. I continue to grow and change despite his objections.

Thanks, I find it easiest to write about what I'm going through in life. My niece has really encouraged me to keep writing. I appreciate your comment.
