play nice.

why do you make
being nice so hard

i try to smooth my words
just so you won’t prick yourself

i try to pour extra honey on
my brittle laugh, even when i’m tired

just so you’ll be a little happier.

i try- i do, i do, i do.

if i could, we could start
on a clean slate, wipe out words

and mute ourselves.

maybe if all we did was smile
we wouldn’t be

juggling ourselves on a
lie detector.

    lie detector

i had no idea one like that existed. (SHHH DONT TELL ANYONE!!!) anyhoo, this poem was so touching, and i could relate to this. sometimes, you just feel like breaking this person's nose or plucking every strand of their hair, or kicking their feet (sorry, violent spark hit me) but you stop yourself from doing all this because you really love them and dont wanna ruin anything. i mean, sometimes we have to consider what they're going through too... (i dont know y i'm saying all this, i bet you already kow)

GOSHIES! this poem was amazing, like every single poem of yours. you blow me away with mere words. woot, and sometimes, silence means everything (random? i know.) love ya hon

    wow!

I loved the harshness yet sorrow in this poem. Throughout the whole poem, there are hints of wanting to be with this person again yet how hard they make it on your part. I understand all to well.

"i try to pour extra honey on
my brittle laugh, even when i’m tired"

what beautiful lines!! it feels like this took all the energy out of you but it was truly from the heart. lovely message
