Born to Suffer

There’s a mask someone put on my face
And the suffering is kept on the inside.
It’s a simple imaginary place
That I can’t leave no matter how hard I’ve tried.

CHORUS 2X
I was born to suffer,
I was born to suffer,
I was born to suffer,
Suffer for a long, long time.

There’s a line someone drew in my mind
And the suffering is mostly on my side
It’s a simple imaginary line
That I can’t cross no matter how hard I’ve tried

CHORUS 2X
I was born to suffer,
I was born to suffer,
I was born to suffer,
Suffer for a long, long time.

There’s a lie someone told to my heart
And the suffering is brutally amplified.
Now I don’t even know where to start
To reverse the effects of the tears I’ve cried.

CHORUS 2X
I was born to suffer,
I was born to suffer,
I was born to suffer,
Suffer for a long, long time.

There’s a mask someone put on my face
As escape from this sorrowful tragedy.
It’s a simple imaginary place
That I once thought was truly protecting me.

Author notes

People mistakenly think they are protecting themselves when they mask their vulnerability. Put your arm in a sling for ten years. Then take off the sling and try to use it. It won't work. The way life is? Use it or lose it! Vulnerability must be practiced or it is lost. There is no greater tragedy than to lose your vulnerability, for it is the entrance to your humanity.

    Point Taken

You are right, of course, but men instinctively try to hide it. Back in the era of the hunter-gatherers for the hunter to show vulnerability was to risk death. Adaptability is also instinctual, so over time our women may be able to teach us to express our vulnerability better. Though I think the suffering might be a bit heavy in your song, it does hammer your point effectively. Great Write!

    Cool

    Great write, enjoyable read.

"I was born to suffer, suffer for a long, long time..." that darn chorus is stuck in my head now, giving me writer's block.
