Anniversary of when it died

It seemed to me I had everything
the girl the gold watch and love
the glow in your eyes was a passion,
I could never have enough of

Then one night it all came unraveled
caught me totally off my game
I saw the glow gone, it started to dawn
somehow I had extinguished the flame

So, tonight I’ll be marking my calendar
  for the anniversary of agony
A jagged x mark, ugly and stark
  another year  passed  painfully

You said you’d always care about me,
but, I knew then that the love had died
It burned out that day, just faded away
since then there’s been nothing inside

So tonight I’ll be marking the calendar
with an empty dinner plate set by mine
I will go on this way, as I do every day
in this make believe where  all is fine

Author notes

awww this is so sad. I can relate to it so well though and it makes it feel real. It's a shame something once wonderful has to end.

    I love that part!
Someone falling out of love with you, you simply can't control...

This is sad but I love how the story flowed

When love dies for one but not the other, it is so very painful. Pam

Oh this is so devastating. A well portrayed emotion of regret. It certainly peaks my interest, it makes me fill in the blank between the everything to the empty plate and I seem to feel the loss along with you

I can really relate to this poem I often wonder about this world and whether it is all make belief or what is real. I can understand what it is like to lose someone you love and how each year goes by so painfully. The pain of loss and the haven of poetry is well expressed here.
