The philosophy of the old horse next door

There is a horse who lives nearby
he watches all that pass his way
and as he does, observing all
in silence he has much to say.

He watches all that pass his way
while he crops the grass and clover
unhurriedly as they rush by
the same scene over and over

And as he does, observing all
he must wonder how they do it
these creatures always in a push
what leads them to go through it

In silence he has much to say,
the bulk of it in silence said,
with every docile glance all knowing,
with every tossing of his head.

There is a horse who lives nearby
he’s taught me many things, you know
the lesson, though, he’s most engraved
is just to watch and let it go.

Ah to possess the simple mind of a beast beneath ourselves, wouldn't it be nice.

Very entertaining, simple but with a dose of truth.

I love the title of this poem. I live near horses and they watch me pass by with a toss of there head and then back to eating the grass or hay. I often wonder what they think of me! Pam

    So at peace

I too always amazed at horses, their stature also, or even when they are in a pack running wild...I too often wondered what they would say or think, but it is kinda in a way we already would know, let it go and let it be...hello I am Mr. Ed (giggle) I once watched one out from the others liturally crouch himself down to the ground to get this grass around a fence...I love watching nature and have too gotten insight on how the beautiful creatures he created live. Thank you for this imagery. God Bless...awesome.

we can learn a lesson from observing all of nature but horses my favorite, they just simple are, they don't worry or rush.
In silence he has much to say
the bulk of it in silence said,
with every docile glance all knowing,
with every tossing of his head.

    well done
