Winter

Winter's season beckons now,
as Autumn slips away.
The gold's and red's of falling leaves,
are left in yesterday.

Grey skies overshadow blue,
the earth prepares to sleep.
While memories of the year gone by,
in silent thoughts we keep.

North wind, strong and mighty,
comes a rattling round your door.
Jack Frost's icy fingers,
decorate the ground once more.

Hedgerows sleeping silently,
Give shelter from the night.
To all that frolicked in the dawn,
of Summers early light.

So, another year is ending,
as the moments slip from view.
We'll await the birth of Springtime,
To rejoice in all things new.

As it is 0 degrees F. here (or -18 C.) this poem really fits! Even as bright and sunny and pretty as it is, sooooo cold! I keep reminding myself that Spring always comes... Thanks for the lovely write!

Winter is beautiful! as long as I can view it's icy beauty wrapped in my fleece and fuzzy house shoes while gazing out the window. This is a beautiful tribute to Jack Frost and I love the rhyme.
