Religion of the mind
converts seduced
by democratic gospels,
taxes for sacraments,
polls the pews,
elected clergy serving their own gods,
which keep changing
with each new set of promises.
Defrocked always replaced
with graduates from same seminary,
changing the pastor’s name in the bulletins
only illusion of improvement in situation.

A brilliant take on the prompt, brother dear. I love the imagery you have created and I'm so thankful that it will all end today. I'm getting sick of it. Good luck in the contest.

Very well done, concise but written perfectly.

Great write. I liked the first stanza and the parts of religion and the church the best. It makes me think of how politics these days seems to be so focused on beliefs and religions instead of the issues in the world at large. There seem to be so many religious wars in the past, like the crusades, world war 2, and even the war in the middle east is kind of related to religion in a way. I guess the point of my comment is, I wish politicians and voters would focus more on the issues of the world and not so much about who believes in what. Great take on the prompt for this piece. Best of luck in the contest. Get out there and vote.
