A young girl
the youngest of three kids
parents were middle aged
loving mother strict father
she loved them both
her dad bought her a car
sweet sixteen
she had to drive him around
because he lost the ability to use his legs
she didn't mind
flash forward doorbell rings
who knew it was love
their families didn't really get along
they didn't mind
they walked down the aisle
then bought a house
three years later had a baby boy
they didn't know it could be so hard
the fighting was constant
her family still didn't like him
he moved back in with his mother
she stayed in the house
he would come over to see his son
then leave
he wasn't sure if he really wanted a kid just yet
he wasn't ready to give up his youth
she was always there for her son
there for his strong willed arguments
there for his loud temper-tantrums
they would always go into another room to argue
but in a four room house its kind of hard to keep the kid from hearing
the kid didn't mind
he was seven now
the man wanted to take his son to Disney World
the son wouldn't go until his father moved back into the house
the woman didn't mind
those three days were short but the boy had fun
it wasn't too much longer before the woman
found out she had an incurable disease
but she had a family
she didn't mind
the family moved to a new house
the man had changed
there were no longer frequent arguments
they might have actually been a happy family
the boy became a teenager
he was a good kid
didn't get into much trouble
his parents didn't mind
but as the saying goes
no good thing lasts forever
arguments were getting to be normal
loud voices quiet silence
tear soaked pillows made it hard to sleep
its funny how people complain because nobody tells them that they love them
the boy never understood this
he had quite the opposite problem
everyday he would hear i love you
but there is another saying
actions speak louder than words
the boy had no siblings
he spent most of his time
in a latch-key loneliness
the boy turned sixteen and the parents gave him a truck
the parents really didn't see alot of the boy anymore
conversation rarely got passed scolding to the boy
conversation rarely got passed yelling with the parents
how many times have i told you...
(never because this problem has never come up) alot
why did you make dinner like this
when are you going to quit smoking
these types of conversations were prevalent
they didn't mind
as the boy was in his graduation cap
his father told him that he was proud of him
i guess the boy grew on him
the boy turned eighteen
he still lives at home because he can't afford an apartment
everyday he saves a little to get out of the arguing silence of the house
the dad gets a call from the boy saying he wrecked his truck
between the swearing and yelling the boy thinks he got an are you ok
the boy buys a new car with the apartment money
the arguments get out of control
the woman confides in the boy that she wants to divorce the man
the boy didn't mind
times are hard
nobody can afford to get out of the house
that seems to keep dragging them down with each other
they are playing a game that has no rules
you can't win in a game with no rules
a thought that often comes up is
is it possible to fall out of love

Good write. I enjoyed reading your poem, it was very sad but I can relate to parts of it. It's weird how the same things just keeps on going on, year after year . In all kinds of familys If only people would learn. I hope your adult life is not a repeat of this.
Lots of love your way.

I loved the raw emotion, and the personal feel, but its flow, imagery, poetic device, phrasing and creativity were all lacking. Strong, though.
Not feeling it.

It's a great poem but it's so long that you may want to break it up a little maybe after all the "didn't mind"'s you could put a space just to make it easier to read. Thank you for your entry and good luck!

This is so powerful and filled with so much emotion. You've scrolled the common dysfunctional home. So many children are growing up with this and you've laid it out so well. Thank you for your entry.
