How to answer all he's asked of me since he was two
I try logic first and sometimes that gets through
But most of the time he says why and then I start anew
How do you tell the miniature you the hows, the whens the whys
When some of things he asks are just to hard for me to describe
He has a list of questions, from dawn til dusk no doubt
He asks the smartest questions, like how he came about
He wants to know how he came to be and I told him that it was fate
That his life was loved and put above my own in every choice I make
How destiny gave him to me, a gift I took ecstatically
That there was never a child born in time more wanted then he
He wants to know what's in the sun, what makes it shine so bright
And how it goes down in the sky when the moon comes up at night
He asks about the man on the moon and is he really there
Or if he flies from home at bedtime on a teddy bear
He asks how high the sky is and if it touches outer space
He asks why some storms last so long and why they do not race
Why thunder is so loud at times and scares him in his bed
Why lighting seems so angry and why it isn't red
He asks if one day he can go explore the jungles and the sea
He wants to see jaguars, sharks and sea anemones
He asks if he will climb mountains and ride a river raft
He says one day that he wants for this to be his special craft
He asks about the sticks and leaves falling from the trees
Then why we can't take them in his room to jump in up to his knees
He asks me why I stop him when he is climbing so very high
Because he really wants that flower so far up in the sky
He asks about all the friends he'll meet, that's his favorite wish
And if one day he'll meet Sponge-Bob and get to jellyfish
He asks if he can have every toy he sees
And why we can not get a cat, it always ends with please
He asks me why some people, don't get enough to eat
Then he asks to bring them home to feed them vegetables and meat
He asks why kids get sick sometimes and why some of them die
He wants to go play with them to be their friend and all that it implies
He asks if he can climb to the stars to pick one out from space above
He wants to put it in a ring to give to me, no reason just a hug
I love his soul, his precious life, his little grins and laughs
He brought to me a whole new world in which to interact
I was barren before he came, no seed that came to root
Then one day a miracle, the most wondrous gift of fruit
This one small thing, this one great feat, for me was heaven sent
This special child in countless ways, has brought me to my knees in one event
For the one I'd give my life for, I'd happily go through Hell
To make sure he grows up then old and live a fruitful life that excels
For he knows I love him so and I will never let him down
I want him to grow up to be the best he can and maybe be renowned
In order for me to do that, I will give all there is in me to him
To make sure he knows who he is, that he is whole, and his path is never dim
In life he is my everything, my heart, my world, my soul
Knowing he will be OK I'll gladly find answers for all I need to know
Author notes
8) Why are you writing poetry?
I write about my life mostly, but I do have a few fictional pieces
9) What do you think about the most?
My son and how to answer properly and correctly all of a 5 yr olds questions. I want him to be as intelligible as he can be and not scared to ask the whys, or ever hear me lie to him by just making something up. I just have to take a different or philosophical view point sometimes. oh, and use the Internet quite often for reference points!

Wow, this is a fantastic poem and an instant winner as soon as i read it! Great use of the prompts and so well thought out. It represents the thoughts of children so convincingly and touches the heart, unless you're made of stone that is! I really like the part
"He asks about the man on the moon and is he really there
Or if he flies from home at bedtime on a teddy bear"
That made me chuckle and brought a big smile to my face, brilliant!
It's the kind of poem you could easily see being sent round the world by email and making everyone's day better. A well deserved Gold and up there with my favourites, thank you very much for entering this contest!
