Whilst enjoying a cup of coffee having just got over flu’
my sister asked quite candidly, ‘Have you thought of what you’ll do,
when you die and you no longer need your moving body parts’?
my reply was just as candid, and with my hand upon my heart…..
‘I’ve thought about this often and had to recently decide
when renewing my drivers license what to do if when I died,
do I give up my one liver, give someone else my heart’?
the list, it seemed, was endless I found a pen and made a start….
Beginning at the top I thought my Brain is still okay
my memory, yes a few gaps there but I remember yesterday,
eyes, now there’s a laugh but my cornea could be used
mouth and tongue, yes take them too tho’ both have been abused.
ears, okay, they’re healthy, they would both be quite alright,
kidneys, yes there’s two of those, not too active in the night,
lungs, oh dear, not sure of these, they would need a check, I guess
left knee, we’ll give this a miss, arthritis, what a mess.
On the right side, quite alright is this, anything here would be a gain
The left side is the one that gives me most worry and Yes Pain!
So giving her a summary, my sister laughed out loud
I hadn’t been aware that we had drawn up a large crowd,
They had stopped what they were doing, sat there listening to me
Red faced, embarrassed, I looked around, for some place else to be.
“Don’t be so upset there love”, said one bloke naturally,
I’ve done the same thing for myself as a parting gift from me
But if you should go before me, can I put my order in
To have your hair for a new wig, to waste it – What a sin!
Who said that talking about one’s death was serious all the time,
I laughed at this strange request and now was feeling fine.
if a part of me can be re-cycled, it doesn’t hurt to look ahead
but before you take away a thing please make sure I’m Dead!

I loved this, it is witty and funny, I know exactly what you mean about body parts wearing out, I'm 52, and can already feel the aches and pains that I know will only get worse. The poem has nice flow and cadence, very easy on the eyes, keep up the good work!

Cleverly created ...
and such a fun read about those final donations to all the needy. I was glad to find this when I returned the favor of you kind comments and this poem should surely go down in the annuals of poetry! I shall add you as a new favorite for future glances into that aging brain of yours!
And by the way ... the drawing is not short of being cute either and I wonder if you are its artist! j

You have penned a very humorous poem about dieing. I think a sense of humor is so important in life to get us through the unpleasant things. My dad had a wonderful sense of humor and he must have passed it on to me. Hope you have a great day and enjoy the weekend. Thank you for sharing this delightful poem.
Take care,
Sandy

lmao... love this piece... but on a serious note... ive always wondered about this 'shave your head for cancer day' ... surely they could keep the hair for wigs for cancer victims... that would mean as much to them as the money that came out of it. and u wouldnt even have to die for it! lol. as for the last line... fookin hillarious... im getting cremated just to make sure lol. gr8 stuff
hugs,

What a delightful poem. I sincerely enjoyed this. When you are working out the final details, make sure you give your heart to someone special for it is very light having learned how to laugh.
I was going to pick the line with "lips and tongue" as a favorite, then I thought "the kidneys"... All great and well thought out. Thank you for writing this light poem Jane

Nice poem and nice thought Von but may collecting day be long delayed.
Recycling of all our body bits
When the spark of life finally quits
Is the ultimate generous plan
For helping out our fellow (wo)man.
So Von I applaud this merry thought
but hope your bits are not too soon caught.
Announcing your intention in this AP frame
Might encourage others to do the same.
To this end I too carry a donors card
But surgeon's will have to search quite hard
Bits of me have already been taken away
To esure I live to my last day.

This made me chuckle all the way through. Reading this first thing in the morning gave a wonderful start to the day. Thank you for making my day. My own parts can be used for whatever, "but before you take away a thing please make sure I'm dead."

Excellent Von you know my love of humour in poetry this is top drawer in my eyes I had the biggest grin on my face with every line read
I looked at my own body and have decided that i will take anything on offer
Thank you so much for a bright start to a miserable day

I'm so thankful that through my parents I'm left with their legacy of a sense of humour. It has helped me through some trials and i need it right now. I don't think it will ever really let me down. Thank You for your encouragement Legend. xx Von
