I remember it like yesterday
I was two years old
My grandfather would put me on his lap And hold me close
Smells coming from the kitchen
As my grandma cooked her wonderful spaghetti
Never was I so happy as I was back then
Innocent and childlike
My heart was free and clear
All I knew was laughter and joy
Only later came the tears
They were my world and I was their's
My fondest memories may be
the shortest
For all the best times I had
Were cause of my grandparents
I use to call them "mama" and "papa"
For me they were more then grandparents
I still smell the Italian food being cooked
Their faces I can still see
Even though they are no longer here
Its been 11 years and yet
Sometimes I still feel sad
And wish they were near
They were my rock and the
first time I truly knew love
Alas I had to grow up fast
For they were gone like that
I know they are watching over me
Like two angels in the sky
I just hope one day I will be in there arms again
Forever and always they will be a part of me

Nice write. Grandparents can be so important and it sounds like you really needed them.
Thank you for entering my contest.
