If the Sun goes away
then what of the moon
will it find a new way to light the night
or will fires that dot
the sparkling distance, come closer.
If the Sun were to sleep
then what of the deep resonant skies;
will night come sooner than now,
will now ever be the same?
When sun shall sleep
must the moon pine and weep
will man join the mournful seas, moon and man
shed tears to wake the day
to shake the grip of shallow darkness-
I would have the Sun
make a bright cover over our heads,
dread not a mystic calendar; it's wisdom falls
softly, and the eye of the ancient claim
will pass lightly…
but I know, there is a hand of rest,
and an answer even before the rise of prayer.

Ah, but the sun would not wish to sleep
for on Wednesday it must light a NEW dawn...

The Mayan calender states the end is soon. If the sun were to sleep so then would the stars never wake. The moon would hid in eternal slumber. For the two are as one. Wonderful poem. ~Sie

I too feel like saying "amen" to the two big lights of the sky that you've pressed here so beautifully against this page, PK.... something so very ancient and so very soft about this poem... a timeless piece.
