The Quiet Girl Plays Fur Elise

We sat behind our silver screens,

where babies seemed to scream louder than they did in the night,

(perhaps because, so agonizing, rang the bells of our clicks and clacks)

at a fright, that was solemn but scary to the young, and the easily stirred,

and some sad, silly birds swooped lower than notes, on a piano wire,

that was wrung with the words of our silly disease,

and the quiet girl, from behind the screen, smiled and played Fur Elise.

Some coughed up smoke, and drank till dark,

and barked with raucous words to fool and cool the hot of summer nights,

(perhaps because, so innocent, stood our souls among the tattered and torn,)

when lights dimmed slowly, and days were long, on the clocks of an age

when our clocks were our fingers and thumbs upon which we would count just the

seconds,

and the time of our lives was a time so at ease,

and the quiet girl, from behind the screen, smiled and played Fur Elise.

You're absolutely correct! I love a heaping dose of alliteration! xD I can do with or without rhyme, but alliteration and consonance are my favorite devices.
And you're very close with the meaning... This is more so a piece directed toward a group of very close "internet friends" that I have. Among others, there is a girl who sometimes goes on her webcam and plays the piano. Her favorite song is Fur Elise. We were somewhat addicted to "Stickam.com," and we still talk a lot, but not as much now that school has started up again.

You really enjoy alliteration, don't you?

I just read your homepage, and then read this poem, and it occured to me that you have a knack for putting words together that begin alike. For some reason, it flows naturally to my mind's ear.

I like the contrast of the "tattered and torn" and the quiet musician. Fur Elise... any reason for this tune? I've played it, and it's quite beautiful, but I am curious as to why Fur Elise.

I am still trying to figure out exactly what this one means. I get the idea of college students, mostly because I am one, and silver screens (laptops) rule my life when I'm not pushing my way through crowds of the drunk and puffing.

I will have to come back for further analysis when I am not procrastinating so many papers.

    Lovely work.
