Lively now, quick quick step
Waters to the river
Circle round Time's Square
Drink up, lose your liver!
Ooy vey! on Christmas Night
Finish up the menorah
Put the snow up your nose
Wake up to Begorrah!
Lively now, quick quick step
Easter winds a blowin'
No matter what the weather is
Money's always flowin'
Celebrate the fourth
Cry eleventh of September
New York New York God help us
We give thanks for each November!

This poem made me utterly sad ...
and my very soul cry out. Dancing the intoxicating dance of drugs, mutilation and destruction, with time running out, out, out ... But still the vibe of fake virility and false beauty.
Brilliant work.

This was a good piece but well over the 40 word limit. Nicely done. Best to you in the contest

Had to Google eye "Begorrah". It means "sure and by God". Ah yes! The heartbeat soul so Draconian and cold of sheer lust and greed feeds and bleeds in endless need of sanitizing purge. But I digress, sorry. You've nailed the chilling truth of the showboating, unyielding Manhattan well here. The brazin hussy does seem to project the seemly cold side of mankind at it's worse.
