There he goes, a gallant knight,
standing bold and erudite.
Where goes he so well-bedight,
that night in armor shining bright?
Oh, his is a sorry tale;
there's tragedy beneath his maile.
His story shall I now detail,
so sad, all words should cease and fail!
A woman's heart he longed to earn--
with such strong love did his heart burn!
He rode to war, a great sojourn,
to marry her on his return.
With victory he rode assured--
so many men would meet his sword.
When he returned, he'd be a lord,
yet still his steadfast love endured.
And thence unto her house he rode,
and 'cross her garden then he strode,
as one small sparrow sadly crowed:
"Your heart shall bear a heavy load..."
Then did a man throw wide the door.
"Another lovestruck man?" he roared.
"Do go away, and come no more,
for she is dead and gone, my lord!"
And from his eye there fell a tear.
"What happened to here? Lend an ear--
her fate is O so sad, I fear...
I know you held her close and dear.
A plague took her away from me,
away from life, away from thee."
Replied the Knight: "How can this be?
that she should die? I cannot see..."
And now in solitude he mourns,
left now lonesome and forlorn;
now in his heart such grief is borne,
for all his hopes of love are torn.
And whither goes the knight today?
Who really knows? I cannot say.
He simply goes his lonely way,
as he has done every day.

Wow what a great write. It is so beautifully written. It also has a lovely flow to it. I can feel the pain of that knight as he rides off hoping to come home to the one he loves. I can very easily picture him riding off in my mind. Best of luck to you in all your future writing

*sniff* That was. . .very well done, poet. (And I think you should check the spelling in lines 4, 6, and 26. . .) Simple, and yet so sad and beautiful. Oh.

So sad. You can't help but feel sad for the poor man... How many might have gone through this? Not only knights, but men and women... in our times... Losing the one is not an easy bussiness to deal with. It's a horrible feeling to endure.
Greatly written, Daniel! -
A beautiful little (?) poem, even though it had a rather sad and unexpected ending. I felt that the rhythm faltered and almost failed a couple of times. Several of the rhymes were I considered a little forced but none of that detracted from the poem.
Superbly penned and greatly enjoyed!! Thank You!!

nice tale with asad twist, the rhymes are good the rythme is really good (sorry about my spelling lol) i liked the twist and the end, and it had a drive that begged the reader to read on one thing i will say is i felt you were telling a lot and not showing much imagery, but that is a prefrance think with me, i did enjoy the read and i like the way the piece closes and a nice title, which made me want to read it in the first place.
Take care
John

Sir knight, I am but a lonely maid
which no mind is paid.
I will gladly be your lady fair
and tend to you with such care.
Oh how sweet it can be,
a life with just you and me.
I offer to you one kiss,
it would bring me such bliss.
-
What a way to return to writing! Dan, I've missed seeing you around! Hope all is well. Again great write! Keep it up! -Liz

That was a cruel ending! XD All that work for nothing? The poor knight needs a hug, I think
