It Just Takes A Handshake

To make peace after war, all it takes is a handshake,
Two hands join, never late --
Unified states:
Countrymen will begin to heal
Handshakes -- a steal!

Here are the contest rules for this poem:

Lives of the Poets - V (To make a prairie it takes a clover)
The featured poet for this contest is Emily Dickinson. I have decided to run three contests, using her work as a jumping off point. She produced a huge body of work in her life, 1400 poems, and there is great variety in her subject matter.

This poem is one of her more whimsical works and I thought I would start with it; in the other two contests, I will deal with more typically metaphysical poems. I am not sure if "metaphysical" is the word; let's just say she talks about death a lot.

Here is the featured Emily Dickinson poem for this contest:

To make a prairie it takes a clover and one bee,
One clover, and a bee,
And revery.
The revery alone will do,
If bees are few.

I am going to ask you for a piece of the same length, form and rhyme scheme but you may choose any subject you wish.

    I love how you made a handshake the solution to war. It seems that whenever peace is made in a war that there are all these photo's of leaders shaking hands, which would lead one to believe that all it takes is a handshake. I am sorry I do not read Emily Dickinson or then I could see how you were emulating her. I love the last line "Handshakes -- a steal!". Most people don't see a handshake as much but you have made it a form of peace making. Great poem.

    Well, yes! Upbeat and most positive short poem here! No question it is full of hope and encourage ment! (the final word in the poem...should it not be "seal"?) bravo!

    Wonderful! a bit too short for me, but then again sometimes less is more...

    i think you managed to enduce some very warm feelings, and reflections on how little it could take for mankind to get along... Nicely done my friend!!

    Lovely!I agree that we should not ignore each other or let grudges be held but show some compassion to our fellow men and women!Kindness is only hard to show for those that haven't gotten any of it in their lives,or if they're as blind as to think they haven't just because at one moment things aren't ok.We need to open our eyes and count our blessings,and the universe will reward our positive energy with more positive energy!We will live happier,healthier, longer lives and shine like the Sun!
