Stone face and Colibri

Missing image

The deep gray corner  photo haze
makes a shaded statue in rock wall
and a piece of hard mineral and aspect
become glimpsed expression of life

stone face and colibri,

as if your pebble eyes had paused the world
...and shutter click time caught there;
tiny gem bird frozen in air...impossibly still.

And do you smile in the delight of the frozen sight,
for you too are a figment of bytes and bits;
but your chin is cleft and your eyes recessed,
and your smile is a dimpled grin,
a face cut short and angled too deeply.

A sense of a mask of clay, that found no relief
from air and seasons and stayed;
grew like summer, and colibri will be set free
from the lens and stop

but the stone face will simply dissolve
into crystal clarity.

    One of the best aspects of pursuing an avocation in poetry is that one is always learning new words, new methods of communicating ideas, new abstracts which illumine cornerstones of cerebral essence beyond visages of threadbare clichés... that sort of thing. In this piece, "colibri" forced me to wikipediate my missing information. Your poetry reads like a gaussian filtered articulation of the sentiments of your perception... the bicameral homogenization of universal interpretability and monistic statism, not unlike the diaphonous sophistry preached by your adored "That One", except yours is actually much more tangible and substantially less dangerous.

      Thank you for taking time to bring your thoughtful insights about this poem, and THAT ONE...and we would all be less than honest to say that change had no risk...but if ever there was a moment in history...when resisting change seemed like a very bad idea...well, this current time,[ these recessioned, confused,and war-filled times ] would be textbook...I think....Thanks for all, wonderful to exchange ideas ...PK

    Your words are like the photo: sharp and clear in the foreground, and more obscure and mystical in the background... beautifully done, and as another reader said, worth contemplation. Thanks for posting both poem and pic!

    As is always evident with your writing, there is the surface wording and then the layers of
    meaning emerge as the onion skin is peeled away. Beautifully written to accompany a lovely picture. Peace, Liz

    I love the photo. I have always found photography fascinating in the respect that it freezes a moment in time for eternity (or at least as long as the media lasts). Contemplative writing here.
