In the flight of fancy, footloose, free
there's no room for mediocrity;
but flight in might should rule the day;
an egress to excess in play.
For reveling souls delight in dance,
partaking in such circumstance
their own so thrown in careless glee,
in the flight of fancy, footloose, free.
Should common contest spoil the song,
protestation won't wait long;
for rare the air that's free of care,
where dancing feet are want to share.
Come ladies, lasses, gentlemen,
come sing and dance with joy again;
for solemn days are long, not few,
solemn ways are often due.
For once, a holiday declared,
just once a moment to be spared
in which we dance like royalty
before all men and deity.
Come rest, you worried, troubled brow,
the test delayed, come singing now;
for once, a holiday declared;
an end to contests, none are spared.

Loved it!
I loved the use of alliteration and I loved your slanted rhyme scheme (oh and the rhymes were awesome). Also, this made me -- a sad kid -- smile. :] And that's because you used many joyful tones of joy, which is good.
And well, yeah, since I liked your poem... (and the awesome rhyme scheme - which I rarely see these days on other's freeverse) I'lm giving you 3 claps.

Great!
I normally don't write along the lines of "happy happy joy joy" at all, but this felt right to write...glad you got a smile...hope it lasts a while longer!
