My Hero The Sergeant

He made it to Sergeant
and he's happy he chose
to join the U.S.A.F..

Civilians don't realize
once one signs up
your life belongs to the force.

They own all of your time
even if you put in
your alloted time for that day,
if needed, they call; you must go
they don't accept the word NO!

Your family must play
second place
if a commanding officer calls
you must answer
if your wife needs surgery
she may have it without you!

Accomadations are not always great
the men and women overseas
suffer in horrid weather
every day is like a sauna
but their not resting
they're doing their job!

One must do their job well
for many of your comrads
place their lives directly
in ones hands
like the mechanic
fixing the plane
if it were to crash
from a defect overlooked
then someone failed
your friends and the others
who wear the same uniform
will suffer.

The person wearing that uniform
sacrafices all his rights
as a citizen
if he falls ill he must endure.

I could go on and on...

He dedicated 20 years
and though he missed
being with his father
during his last days alive
he knew his father
was very proud of him!

He doesn't regret a day he spent
serving his country, the U.S.A.!

this is amazingly put, because many people don't understand, it is an every day occurance for a military member to miss a birth of a child, a surgery, a christmas. I have friends in the desert right now who will notbe home for christmas. There are those of us without families who sacrifice starting a family for those who already have one. I am glad you shared... and your welcome, it is an honor and a privlage to serve for people like yourself.
