A horseback ride through morning snow fall

Missing image
A look outside the window, lace of snowflake, brush of the angel wings on pine needle hangers.
Slate gray, the skies stretch off over ebony boulders jutting up through the ermine comforter.  a cut out of mountains sleep in the distance. Slow, the shallow river snakes cross the rocky basin, steam escaping off into the haze.
I take your blanket, forget the saddle, tossing it on your back.  You  dance at the thought of tossing aside the drifts, breathing in crystalline, crisp air.  Your dapper gray coat already tosses off heat into the whirling downfall.  Frosty flake on your eye lash as on mine and as I climb up the feel of excitement runs through us both.  Cold in the morning, my limbs are stiff but excitement  warms us.
Down to the waters edge, I watch you sip the icy mirror, thick with the cold, your breath drifts off.  High on anticipation, we turn into the gentle, frigid breeze  you kick up your heels, and we are off, the new fall fashions the coat of satin down we wear.  Snowy winter day, so long I've missed you.  Let us be one again my old friend.

Author notes

It's been to long since I rode through a snow fall. This is my etching of the memories of such sights as the one in the picture.

Definately a man and his horse...I did feel I was there...freezing too...but the beauty of it all and to share it with such a brilliant creature, describing how you share the same path...same feeling from natures elements...ride on.

I think you know me well enough to know I rarely comment on prose but I enjoyed this. Thanks for the ride!
