First Light

A city wakes uneasy
in the dull grey light of morn'
while winters icy woes obscure
seasons yet unborn.
Eyes still on the sleepy side
with dreams left unfulfilled
reflect manhattans skyline
in late Decembers chill.

Author notes

Prompt: Manhattan chill.

    Wonderful write!

It paints quite a picture in very few words. A well written poem that deserves recognition.

You write just as easily about the city as you do the prairie, this is beautiful! It has the charm of Sam Elliott with his easy drawl, speaking through you.

The one thing I can say is that Manhattans skyline is truly a wonderful sight. As a Brooklyn guy I thank you for this lovely write. Whether is but cold or warm the city is wonderful.

You've captured in verse the urban grind of spinning wheels propelling in endlessness here. And Manhattan's heart beats just as cold but sure.

Well done David, an excellent little poem, and one I can relate to quite well. the alternating rhyme scheme fits perfectly and the story reminds me to value the openness of where I now live.
