Everything was fresh and new that year
Crisp leaves crunching under our feet
Longing and loneliness permeated the halls
And empty words fell from the lips of wrinkled men
Tired and tenured, hardened to the exuberance of youth
And the crushing bulwark of despair
Weary now, laughing through a cigarette, I look back
Wanting everything, believing in nothing
We were the future
And where are we now?
