Frozen

Disbelief filled their faces when
we told them we were in love.

But when it was over, they gave
us space to breathe,

though i knew I could

never breathe properly again.

Their respect was a facade

for their mock curiosity.

Monochrome pictures of lost love
were burned before me; a severe
reminder of how I fell so easily.
Everything (these memories) were
charred beyond recognition

Except one picture.
I loved it too much.

I hid it from the world and kept it
in the back-pocket of my heart.
I defied the laws of my conscience,
breaking the rules of this charade

Every night I forced back the
hands of time, & thought of you.
My tears fell into place with

the world's ignorance

& every night, these tears fall as
time freezes one last moment
with me & you until I fall to sleep.
