Keeping me awake
In an electrifying daze.
I try hard not to think,
just leave it up to fate.
But every second is a moment longer
that I have to wait,
idly wondering what comes next
and unable to fade.
Knowing life persists relentless
doesn’t make it any better.
I can tell myself to breath and sleep,
but that won’t make it matter
more than dreaming with my eyes awake
of smoke clouds, smiles, murmurs.
So I’m lying in a wakeful state,
loving a disaster.
