The greatest blessing of age
is the slow, silent return
of the blustery, sun-kissed days of youth.
Warm, sweet-scented air,
purity, color, light,
again illuminating the heart
after the dark journey
through the long, cold tunnel of experience;
the trials and unhastenable awakening of awareness.
When the rage of explosive youth dissipates
to arrive at peace on the calm shore
of the hurricane's day-after,
left blissfully alone
in the long lost stillness of childhood
to lovingly sift among the scattered remnants;
to choose and hold what serves
and toss away what never has.
To sit quietly, strongly, finally ourselves
as new storms gather.

Excellent
In returning the favor I was given a blessing. Reading this piece gave me a calm, serene feeling. Eloquently written with an unmistakeable touch of wisdom.
Thanks again for your kind comment. I do appreciate it.

Lovely. Such expressiveness in so few words. *swoon*
Thank you very much! -
Life is a wonder sometimes, especially when set to words so we can see, and feel the beauty in the calm. What a whirlwind life I lead as a youngster. It paved the way for now, and I have no remorse nor regrets. Ahhhh, I savor the calm you speak of in this poem, and thank you for your insight.
Much Love,
Renee

Well i feel i have to comment on this as a young person... that having read your poem feel a greater understanding of maturity. I enjoyed the poem very much and it really made me sit back and contemplate the future, even though you talk about links to the past. Hope that made sense.

Home is definately a place for reflection and the place where we gather our strength; as you have said the above surfing the calm before the inevitable storm. Again a lovely message in this piece.

It is so nice to know that there is "a calm" waiting at the other side of the ratrace . I think sometimes we still forget what it is really all about , but I guess I have matured
and left my youth and childhood way behind , and am now on the way to once again look forward to be able to enjoy the awakening of awareness . Just reading this feels peaceful

I just found your poems while reading Irish Rose and I also have a connection to American School of Martial Arts..small world! So, it was with pleasure I read this beatifully eloquent poem. It's so hard sometimes to remember to stop and smell the roses when life is so hectic and we live in a city that idolizes youth. Your words really struck home and I will be inspired to stop and appreciate the "peace on the calm shore" (my favorite line!). Well done and I'll keep on reading! Lily

I like this... the lines
to lovingly sift among the scattered remnants;
to choose and hold what serves
and toss away what never has.
especially spoke to me. Wow. So true, and you said it so bluntly and clearly and yet so POETICALLY, just great. I can tell you have learned such out of your own experiences... which is what they are for! Nice work. -
Those words descibe how I feel now, after busy and loud years, I find myself calm, quiet enjoying time with no rush. Have learned to appreciate the little things that are so important.
You have brought your thoughts very well and on a peaceful way that shows through your lines.
Really a very pleasant poem to read, and probably it was even more pleasant to write it!
Lots of
Mari
