"Our Rainbow"

Missing image
I remeber when we were younger,
we were insperable,
and if someone asked if who our best friends were,
I would always say my younger sister, Rebecca.
You would reply by saying it was me.

We would run around outside,
screaming at the top of our lungs,
things only we could understand,
not caring who heard or what they though,
we were having fun,
that was all that mattered to us.

"Sleepovers" in eachothers rooms,
playing games of whatever came into our heads.
I remeber when I made you look like a mouse,
with some kiddy makeup,
and your hair.
We thought it was the funniest thing,
and took so many pictures.

We laughed way too much,
but we never thought that was a bad thing.
At theater camp one year during a rehearsal break,
you came over and hugged me,
and a girl by us said,
"you and your sister are really close aren't you?"
I told her yes we are.

I wonder if you still remeber that,
or the commercials we made,
and the interviews with our dolls,
that we vidoetaped and made everyone watch.
If you still remeber what we called "our rainbow",
"our rainbow" was something we said our love for eachother,
was as long as and as wide as,
and kept growing everday.

Or have these things faded from your memory,
just like "our rainbow"?

The title is just fine. When I read the authors notes, I was reminded of my own sister. We've never been close and we fight all the time - I hate it but she always starts being annoying and with my patience, it doesn't go together so well. Great job and good luck!

This is a beautiful poem, sis. I hope you and your sister get along better and that you always know that there are people looking out for you.

    God Bless,
    Matt.

    oh my

This is so precious and touching. She may have forgotten for now but she will come back. When I was growing up my sister right under me was the best friend I had too. You may drift apart at times but you will come back together. I love you precious one, Daddy

    love it *tear*

omg that was so sad, ironically enough my little sister's name is also rebecca (tho i call her becky) i know that a lot of people will tell you that you get closer to your sister as you get older, but that's only true after you hit your twenties, i have lots of poems from my teenaged years about my sisters and memories we once had. it hurts like heck for that relationship to change and grow up, but if you were really as close as this poem writes, you will find that friendship again, it just might hurt a little on the journey.
okay now that i've been all positive hippie, i have to say i love this poem, i like all of the memories you alluded to, and it's just a great piece of art. i think that title works because it's so personal, and if the title was different you'd miss how important that line about remembering how important the rainbow is. great poem. i loved it.

This is sweet and sad at the same time. Your sister doesn't hate you, she still loves you. You just have to remember, shes still little, you are growing up. She'll come around. I love you loads.

We sometimes think we are mad at our siblings, but they are your closest friends. We sometimes make them mad, but it is eay to forgive. Good luck with the contest and tell your sister you love her everyday. She still loves you too! Maybe just mad for a MOMENT! I LOVE YOU! The Shaker
