Poet’s Masquerade

Late October, an invitation came,
a masquerade of a different kind.
“Wear what I say” the instructions proclaim;
“and only the costume that I have assigned”.
I was told to dress formal, an elegant dame,
I had a perfect gown, or I would have declined.
If I could not attend, it would be a shame.
So I packed my things and I hopped on a jet,
for a trip to Georgia I would not regret.

Fashionably late, I arrived about ten
and there was Dalaney in fishnet hose,
swarmed around her, were at least twenty men,
she was loosely dressed in the free verse she chose.
PerVirtuous saw me, my heart stopped and then
he made a sneer and he turned up his nose,
he was dressed in prose and was mumbling Zen.
Adjusting my gown I began to mingle
The sight of Swan song made my heart tingle.

Cricketjeff caught my eye all dressed in rhyme,
he said I looked great in my formal wear.
I thought he was dashing, a man in his prime.
MJ Donnelly came over, I felt his stare
all dressed in abstract, I knew he fought crime,
with his eyes on my ass he had such a flair.
Mairi was my favorite, she had such class,
she took my hand, I went home with that lass.

That was cute. What a fantasy of fun. I'm sure my eyes would have been exactly where MJ had his. Seriously, this was very creative and a delight to read. Put a smile on my face in the morning which is very hard to do.
