In a still night, a travelled wind is heard.
Faint circles around a voice of the world
a call to all who might listen and know
even hard eyes and jaded hearing.
If I would speak in a voice of the world
I would bring music and pain to your ears
you would hear the laughter of sunny days
around anguish suffered in silence
and do you hear...the silence
the space between your heartbeats
fitful murmurs and flights of prayers
as when mothers lose their milk like parched land
when rain comes too late to planting
and merely softens ground for even softer eyes
dark eyes, for stillness of the strange little seeds
carried in two hands wrapped in sadness
as Africa weeps once more even while
a space aged world flies by, blinking at the moon
and a tear smears my fingers,
until my fingers wet the keys
and I close the light of a screen,
until tomorrow and my prayers
still, like the voice of the world
are for courage,
for a world with courage to feel.

Very nicely done, you have some truly excellent images and the pieces itself is both strong and soft.

I loved it the power of the lines and the beauty of expressions so many truths up to the last line. Very well done.

hard eyes and jaded hearing...
A powerful expression that goes beyond Africa, to the very root of humanity itself.
There is an inner quiet wrapped within this poem and it stills the din to listen.
Exceptional work. Amazing to read and understand. ~Pamela

From the stillness, internal and external, comes poetry like this. The last few lines reminded me of the Circle of Courage Model that I teach to my social workers; a model based on the medicine wheel of native Americans, and which include the spirits of belonging, mastery, independence and generosity. Generosity is all about the courage to care for others...and this is what I find in this poem... a big heart and a voice that cares, PK.
