Sideeffects may include:

They medicate
and we willingly take
in hopes of finding
a greater being
a universal truth
that red apple of knowledge
(in pill, or any other form)
trying this and that
in hopes of finding a cure
something to make us better
replacing serotonin
adding synthetic chemicals
taking away dopamine
fucking with your mind
(in more ways than one)
something to kill the pain
something to get us high
(or low)
legal or not
is the enemy really the drugs themselves?
or is it the users?
Abusers?
Dealers?
Scientists?
Doctors are ready and willing
to pull out their prescription pads on command!
could we put blame on the whole bureaucracy
and the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies?
keeping us all on drugs
more drugs
to combat the side effects of all the other
drugs
even the dealers know this is business
and supply always meets demand
as long as the money keeps changing hands
what is the difference between
the street and a drug store?

Good question! I don't have an answer... maybe grassroots versus cooperate---

You certainly make the reader give lots of thought to the answer to your last line. I like the way this poem resounded aloud!

    This passage, in and of itself is a poem;

"is the enemy really the drugs themselves?
    or is it the users?
    Abusers?
    Dealers?
    Scientists?
    Doctors are ready and willing
to pull out their prescription pads on command!
could we put blame on the whole bureaucracy
and the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical companies?
    keeping us all on drugs
    more drugs
to combat the side effects of all the other
    drugs"

Excellent response to the prompt poet. I see the visual image prompt (above graphic) in your well paced, and placed words.

Thank you for this entry and I wish you well in the challenge.

    Much Love & Respect ♥

This is very good. I totally agree with your message here. There is no difference between drug dealer and doctor; scientist or the person making meth; drug store, liquor store or the street. You have many powerful and true things to say in this. GOOD JOB!
