Prayer for Our nation - a Christian's plea

Dear Lord,

I love You and I rejoice in You alone. You have redeemed me by the blood of Your Son and have promised to care for me always.

Lord, this nation has turned from You and has taken a path that is unpleasing to You and against Your truth and commandments.

Lord, I stand in the gap for my country. I repent for our sins and for leaving You and Your ways. I ask You to send a new wind to sweep this great nation. I pray for true repentance and an awakening in the spirits of Your creation.

Please bless this nation and bless its leaders. I remind You of Your covenants and I beg for Your mercy and justice to cover this land from the east coast to the west coast and from our southern borders to our northernmost borders.

Lord, return us to our first love. Let all that have breath, praise the Lord. Let all rejoice in You and Your goodness. Let us all say, "In God (alone) do we trust."

I love you Lord and I thank you for hearing my prayer. In Jesus' precious Name I pray. AMEN!

Author notes

I know this is not a poem but it is a deep cry of my heart for this election.

"When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place." ~ 2 Chronicles 7:13-15 NIV

    This is so beautiful Joanne!
    No one can ask for more than this lovely plea.
    May his Spirit always stay by you and soothe your heart in troubled times. He does live, that I can testify.
    And though man might mar and spoil this world, the truth is that;
    'With God, nothing is impossible.'

    Certainly the country is being punished now, though I would hesitate to say that it is punishement by God. "The sins of the father shall be visited upon the sons, and the sons of sons, even to the third and fourth generations." In this case, we the people allowed our mass media to become a filter on our national awareness and we will pay the price for not cleaning out the media cess pool a long time ago. Academia, too, has been over-run with people hostile to Christianity and morality. And now science, it appears, will offer its scientific consensus to the highest bidder. So with all the crooked journalists, politicians, teachers and scientists, it no wonder we end up with a president that is filling all available appointments with communist sympathizers and incompetent agenda-driven boobs. Bush chipped away at the Constitution... Obama shredded it.

    A simple prayer with a simple message-one heard year after year, since the introduction of sin, yet one unheeded by most because only a few like you wish to keep to God's side- that has a deep meaning.
    Thank you for this,

    God is so good, and has made it so easy for us to come to Him. This is an awesome prayer. Full of remorse and heartfelt petition for a wayward country. He will get our attention somehow, through the economy or some other way. I beleive we are living in the last days of the last days, and He so wants all men to come unto Him. Thank you for this prayer.

    I think the point, often missed, is that if "God's people" will repent-- Not the heathens! Then he will heal the land...

    I often hope He has mercy for the people who are discouraged from the poor example I set sometimes; and the mistakes that I make.

    Joanne, thank you for this prayer,..I am from Canada, but all of us in every country that has a burden for our nations will pray, confess our own sin and the sins of the nation to see God work mightily on our behalf.
    This reminds me of the prophet Daniel that prayed for his nation, repenting for her taking on her sins on his own shoulders, and it brought the release of Israel from Babylon and their return to their
    homeland..If we ever needed to pray it is now! Thank you for this poem of prayer!

      Thank you for your prayers!

      Yes, let us turn to Him in humility especially as the days grow darker and darker.

      Thank you for your comment on the earlier comment. Honestly, I do not understand why more believers are not writing prayers and poems to our God in such a time as this. The beauty about AP is that we are free to raise our voice through our writings. That is what this site is all about.

      I am not upset with the comment. I will write what I feel is true and I will stand up for my God alone! I do not have to defend God and His Word. He is all and all is Him.

      But what is upsetting is that many good Christians do not raise their voices because they are intimidated or fearful of that kind of reaction. We just have to "get over it" and be bold and courageous and say what the Lord has placed on our hearts. Like you did, my dear sister in Christ. Thank you.

      Be blessed and keep praying!

    A person of Faith

    should not have to ask; "In God (alone) do we trust"
    A simple reversal of verb and pronoun would make a statement instead of asking a question. I see no reason for parentheses on 'alone', unless you`re not sure....In God we do trust...Bob 42

    in terms of the LANGUAGE of the piece it is definitely strongly worded and it's clear that it's truly written from the heart. my only concern with the CONTENT of the poem is that you (and others) recognize differences of opinion in this country (IE: "liberals") does not always imply godlessness. we should emphasize separation of church and state out of selflessness, since there are so many different religions in this country alone. your faith, like any other, should of course be celebrated but NEVER in a way that is condescending. and that is how this piece feels to me, particularly in saying "Lord, this nation has turned from You and has taken a path that is unpleasing to You." but then again, it's all yours. I clicked on this expecting to find something that stirred me up, and I did. but I would also mention that I in no way mean to offend you... I just hope that you do not feel so arrogant as to assume that the majority of people in the world are long-gone sinners and fools.

    "Surely men of low degree are a vapor,
    Men of high degree are a lie;
    If they are weighed on the scales,
    They are altogether lighter than vapor.
    Do not trust in oppression,
    Nor vainly hope in robbery;
    If riches increase,
    Do not set your heart on them.

    God has spoken once,
    Twice I have heard this:
    That power belongs to God."--Psalm 62:9-11

    It's interesting to note that the verse you cite is talking about the sins, not of non-believers, but of believers, that seems to have caused problems in this world.

    It may be that this world is in its shape because of Cotton Candy Christians.

    Repentance seems to be the solution. 1 Timothy talks about how the Lord can grant repentance. It sure seems we need it.

    Wow! Beautiful prayer. It is so true that our nation has strayed away from the one and only true leader of all hearts and nations. It is so sad to see it happened. I know that if you pray, he will heal all things in time. This election is very important to our nation, but it can only be successful through our Lord and God. He is the only one who make wrong right. As a Christian, and proud to be one no matter what other people say, religion is the most important thing to me, and I often to pray for our nation and its leaders that God will forgive all wrong. You did a wonderful job with this ever so touching prayer. Our government needs religion back in it. I love this prayer.

    Very well done

    A fine write, indeed. My prayer for our nation is for religious freedom for all religions, regardless of whether they are christian or non-christian; liberal, moderate or conservative. I believe in seperation of church and state since America is now, as it always has been, a nation of diverse religions; philosophies, and lifestyles. You see, I am not a christian, and I do not want any one religion to dominate our political process, nor do I want any religion to use Civil Law to impose any of their dogma upon non-believers. Again, well done.
