In a coffin I am lying
my mind is filled with dread
I raise the lid and question
excuse me, am I dead ?

Just how should a person react when he wakes up dead? If conscience – be it mind, soul, psyche – discovers itself apart from its mortal incarnation, what is its initial reaction to the separation? You have presented us with a bit of fun which yet leads us to ponder the nature of our living.
P.S. You can put the funny picture back in now!

This is very clever, and I enjoyed reading it; I can just picture that happening to some one, and then the reaction when the coffin lid is opened. That'd be pretty funny to see.
Thank you for sharing; best of luck in the contest! -
I like this alot. I am pleasently surprised by the dark humor in this short poem.
