I can taste the chemicals
sliding down my throat,
sniffling and snorting to keep it all in.
Little powder rings
on my nostrils,
telltale signs of an addict.
Licking the bill
to numb my lips,
to numb everything that hurts
way too fucking much.
Suddenly I can't feel my fingers
I'm weightless and empty
floating up and up
touching the clouds with outstretched hands.
Realizing for the first time
what it means to "kiss the sky".
Lids fluttering and colors flickering
before my eyes.
Air whooshing in and out of my ears,
amplified a million times.
I feel the rhythm of the world
cascading through my veins,
my heart beating in perfect time.
Every moment clearer and sharper than
the one before it.
It's over way too soon
and before you can blink twice,
I've shoveled another lump up my nose
and another
and another.
Desperately trying to hang onto
this high, to prolong the fix.
The fix that is fixing me,
breaking me,
killing me, line by line by line.

I really like this. I like all of the emotion that you put into it and I can relate. Great job at describing the highs and the pain. Thanks for entering.
