Waiting for a bus...

The majority of our journey together
has been spent
on the bench of a bus stop.

We've watched others
come and go
and pass us by on their way
to something bigger

content
with our stationary bonding.

We were never in a hurry to board
whichever bus pulled to the curb,
no matter how dark it got
or how cold the air became.

But the day is coming,
when our bus will arrive,
with no guarantee
that we'll be able to sit together.

Or more likely,
the day is coming when we realize
we were never waiting for the same bus
to begin with.

One of us will board,
while the other will stay
motionless on the bench,
maybe waving,
maybe staring off in the distance...

But sitting still,

while the other drives away,
not knowing if she
can handle looking back.

Please tell me what you think

The story of so many best friends, when one of them goes off to college, and the other doesn't. This can even happen to family members, and husbands and wives. That is why the friends you make in college sometimes turn out to be your very best friends for the rest of your lives- because you have so much in common with them. You still love your old friends, but they often tell you that you have changed, and you have, but for the better. It is often their bitterness and resentment that they take out on you. You have done nothing wrong, but they make you feel like you have. Would you listen to me ramble on and on?
