Too Strong to Face the Storm

She sat there,
poker-faced
as his words disappeared into eternity.

Pretending not hear
the desperation
that echoed her own wants and fears.

Too strong to give in
to her heart's pleadings
and too cowardly to take
the stormy path of love.

Author notes

Prompt 4.

As always, critique highly appreciated, don't be afraid of sounding rude.

This is so profound. I know that the pathway leading to love is such a scary road to take. We all fear being hurt...but if we don't take that first step into 'maybe'...we will never know. This is beautiful

I often think poker-face hides an inner fear. I think you've described the paradox here well!
