Sweet Sorrow (Poem)

You’ve forgotten.
You’ve forgotten and I have changed.
You’ve forgotten the way I once was,
And therefore have no way of knowing
The way I am now.
You’ve left me here.
Here, in the dark, not really alone
But something else. Simply fading…
You’ve forgotten our secrets.
Our dark, naive secrets.
Will you ever remember?
Or will you leave me in sweet sorrow?
The sweet sorrow of knowing you’re happy.
Knowing you’re happy, but never seeing you again.
I have day dreams.
Well…night dreams, really.
It’s never actually “day” here.
I sit and remember.
I remember whilst looking up at the sky.
I remember whilst seeing the stars
That aren’t really there.
I remember us, and our secrets.
The ones you forgot, remember?
Our naive secrets.
I sigh with the non-existent wind I hear,
Rustling through the non-existent trees and grass.
My sweet sorrow at their loss
Flying upward on non-existent wings.
Flying and hoping against hope
That one day it might reach you
Land upon your shoulder,
And tell you this story.
The one you forgot, remember?
