End Of October

From my window in the fall
I see the skies with wind that blows
Trees all dressed in their best of orange
For this special time is October

When cats of black are seen in shadows
Witches watch with brooms in hand
Pumpkins sit on steps and porches
For this special time is October

Apples crisp with each bite
Children watch scared to peek
Customs made with special care
For this special time is October

Goblins wait for the special night
Bowls of sweets wait to hand out
Skies all dark with scary thoughts
For this special time is October

Halloween has arrived
Dressed to scare all that hides
Sweets are eaten without a thought
For this special time is October

Happy Halloween!

I like the watchful feel the first couple of stanzas set up, expectant of October. Then how Halloween swoops in at the last, personified as something scary - sweets quickly disappear, gobbled up in his honor.
