Hand in Paws

Take my hand
between the tabby softness
of your paws.
Unfurl your claws
and dip your jaws
to place the sudden wildness
of your brand
upon my hand.

Author notes

28 words

In my work with cats, and with my cats at home, this sort of thing does happen occasionally. Some cats would never do this but others can turn in seconds.

I still love them and forgive them for their wildness.

This reminds me of a cat I used to know, who would come and sit on my lap and then suddenly get a whim to claw me a few times and run away. Funny thing he was, how it always seemed he was smiling... not with his mouth, but with his eyes. He smiled a lot and I had many marks.

    Wonderful...

As a cat lover & owner (Although the term owner is relative when refering to cats, they own us, don't they? lol!) I can relate very much with your words here... Soft & gentle with both playful & feral moments...
    Another great piece...
    Well done!!!

Haha. I was at a house party the other day and stroking my friend's cat, which was originally a stray and I knew had a tendency to attack. Still for a minute or so it was perfectly content, until I got distracted for a second and looked away and have the scabs to prove it! I also have 3 cats, one of which was a stray. He's usually quite docile but sometimes he'll attack. I think he thinks it's playing though Good job!

I can relate with your words. I have cats, my one cat rosebud, who I found in my backyard alone and so small. From the begining I would put my finger inbetween her little toes as if I was holding her hand. Wanting her to feel safe...now she is 5yrs old and she still finds comfort when I do it, and she purrs so very loud. Lovely words...thanks for sharing
