no one remembers how it started
it just one day was there
to sweep the land
from shore to shore
from one edge of the globe to the other
too quickly
it didn't matter if you were rich or poor
it didn't matter if you were dumb or smart
it didn't matter if you were ugly or beautiful
it didn't discriminate
it didn't hate
it didn't monopolize
it was what it was
a simple organism that thrived
that ate
that destroyed
almost all of human life
a very small percentage survived
immune to this scourge
this virus of apocalypse
this harbinger of destruction
spread too far from one another
falling one by one
to age
to accidents
to nature
mankind slowly dwindled
and this blue pearl of life
spins on unknowing and uncaring
that a new form has risen to dominance
as corpses stare up at the unforgiving universe
