By habit he rolls over
expecting to find her body close
for him to pull her close in sleep.
But she's sleeping on the other side of town
and her motionless figure doesn't
give under his tonight.
She looks to that open space
he used to occupy in sleep.
But the blankets are cool to her touch
and and any warmth he could've left
is no longer radiating from her sheets.
She rolls over[those stars glowing]
and wills her body to sleep.
But she wakes up hour by hour
wondering then realizing
he's never coming back.
He checks his phone to find
another missed call form her.
He had ignored the ringing
coming from the table close by.
He hits the dimiss key
and finds a picture of her
on his background[mocking him]
he quickly closes it and sets it aside.
As his voicemail plays for the
third time too many
she throws her phone down
hoping to destroy some evidence
that she'd mistakenly called him again.
He was just too perfect fo her
to have an intention of letting go.
But it's what things are coming down to.
[we are at an end now]
He doesn't know how to feel about her.
He sees her as amazing
[maybe he shouldn't have told her that]
Everyday he looks at her
everyday he thinks of her
but he doesn't know what
they've come to at this point in their lives.
The wind tears at his skin
as he pulls from the cigarette
hanging from his lips.
She pulls up at his house
[he knows she's coming today]
She watches him pull from his cigarette
and hesitate before he smiles
and stands to go meet her.
She smiles as she climbs out to go to him.
[but one day he'll forget about her]

Author notes
Greg again,
It's getting weird and distant between us.
I guess maybe I lost him for good.
idk still.

This was beautiful and I love the format of it. I can definitely relate to this {aside from the fact that I am a female} but anyway, great write and thanks for entering.

I am female too...and he helped me write this cause i picked up his habits and the way he is. We're working on this again, but we'll have to see.

God, do I know about this story of someone just seeming to forget, then begin to remember. Who knows how they feel, because it's never easy to second guess a man, especially one who wont pick up. This makes me want to cry in some ways. I like how you put the persona of both you and him there, so I can feel for both of you, not just him. It's very strong of you to put yourself in his shoes when you're hurting so much yourself. Takes real strength.

Well, we were perfect. Completely, and yeah it got weird and distant. But I know him from the inside out. I know he was thinking about us separating...and I did too.
I knew how he was feeling...that's how I could write both sides of how each of us we're feeling.
And now, we've fixed things and he's read every sad, heartfelt poem...including this one...he told me he'd never forget about me. ever. We're better than ever.
Thanks so much for the silver honey.
and for being so understanding and being here!
