I never thought I'd be here in battle,
and Ive never been so scared in my life.
At the age of twenty three years old,
please God let me return home to see my newborn and wife.
I hope I make it through this war,
and back to my home soon, warm in my bed.
God keep me safe in this time of need,
because all I see is guns and war filling my head.
I can do this, I know I can,
Ill soon be home safe with my family.
So here I go, weapon in hand into battle,
as I ask you God to please watch over me.
Author notes
So my creative writing teacher had us do prompts, to put ourselves in the mind of things. After we finished, I chose "the mind of a soldier." I wrote this poem for my class and I liked it, so I thought Id add it to here!
