eden, i
don't know how to
tell you, but eve
believed. the earth and
the sky trembled when she
was stroking the snake and
he asked her to rewind
his coils. she reached
for the supple fruit,
a twig snapped and
released the downpoure.
underneath i felt the clay
seeping back into our feet,
the tangled vines ate our wings.
a mongoose played peekaboo
with the serpent, grinning.
eve let out a banshee's wail,
breaking the ground and crumbling
into the sea. eden, don't be afraid
we'll seam the fray and you'll be
whole again.

Eden I
the earth and the sky
rewind
downpoure
underneath
tangled
peekaboo
banshee
don't be afraid
the fray
