After the dark

I had made darkness my only friend
Waiting for death to take me to my end

I was that doll whose heart did beat
But with no hope, no joy, no life in it

The dead silence was music to me
Only the dance of death I wished to see

Black were the skies and so were the trees,
The mountains black, black were the seas.

“In darkness you have lived long enough.”
Fate said, “Let me color you in the hues of love.”

“Failure is also a part of life
Giving up isn’t where the answer lies”.

Bright lights soon shimmered in my heart
A brand new world, a whole new start

I slowly let go of the guilt, the pain,
And fell in love with myself again.

The sky is now smiling blue at me
A cheery green has wrapped the trees

I was scared to be happy for a very long while
But now I was ready to meet life with a smile.

Accepting defeat is never the way to live
Life is about chasing the dreams you believe

I’d learnt a lesson that I’d never forget,
The key to happiness is to first love your self.

    What I like best about this piece is the transition. From darkness to light and the journey of evolving through the trails of life and self to find it. That captured my attention most reading this. A good piece.

    Emotional

    So beautiful - the emotions pouring out from this poem is amazing. The imagery from dark to light is fabulously done - it flows so nicely!
    I have to admit, tears were brimming with this one!
