Ships and the Sea

A sad king in a small kingdom,
Little wordly experience.
No outside trade, no visitors;
Sitting in my castle, waiting.

The kingdom plateaued, grew stagnant.
The world evolved, I never did.
Expecting wonders to reach me
Through hardened, barricaded walls.

Then, a scouting vessel arrived
From across the sea, seeking aid.
A modest request, I obliged,
Sending a ship forth in response.

After days, no message reached home.
Sending numerous large vessels,
I received not a word from you.
My ships must have been lost at sea.

I travelled across the water,
Unexperienced, desperate.
Excited, I reached your harbor,
But I received no welcoming.

You questioned my strange arrival,
So I spoke of the sea and ships.
You no longer needed my aid,
And cast me out with no remorse.

    I really like the metaphor.
It is very well written. The story is hidden in the metaphor but still clear to the reader. Very nice.
Thank you for entering my contest
    and best of luck.
