Where were you when I wanted to fly

i was picking myself up from the asphalt,
trying to control the angular limbs that
seemed to spring from all the dark places
deep inside of me. grazes danced their way
across my shins; bleeding rainbow and adding
colour to a world stained sepia with the lies that
festered between his perfect teeth.

the rain burned my eyes and filled the
hollow you left between my arms; ripples
spreading with every feeble beat of
my broken heart. i tried to breathe,
dragging moisture from the air and
drowning.drowning.drowning. in the emptiness
that held my body to the street like that
sweetened strawberry gum he used to chew
in place of chemical shots of yesterday.

only i don't taste of childhood and sweetener
as artificial as true love.

[all i wanted to do was soar]

  • Awww, this was beautifully written! You portrayed the title wonderfully and I absolutely loved how you wrote with such vivid imagery.

    "bleeding rainbow and adding
colour to a world stained sepia with the lies that
    festered between his perfect teeth"

These 3 lines really caught my attention; I loved how you used "rainbow" and "sepia" and "festered". All of those words just scream emotion and heartache.

    "in the emptiness
that held my body to the street like that
sweetened strawberry gum he used to chew
in place of chemical shots of yesterday"

Such sadness and emptiness, yet it was powerful and sincere. I loved how detailed you were with the "sweetened strawberry gum".

You are a very talented writer and able to turn your feelings into an emotional masterpiece that captures the reader and lets them feel your heartache as well

Thanks for entering my contest and best of luck!
