Make it fast,
Make it last!
Make it something we might regret,
Make it something we won't forget!
Race me to the finish,
I bet I can beat you there!
I was sure it was something we'd never miss,
Now we're lost who knows where!
Only time will tell,
If we can find our way back from this.
Folly or fame,
It'll be an adventure to see what fate has in store for us.
We'll be in it together,
Even if we're worlds apart.
I need you to know,
I miss you like there'll never be a tomorrow,
But I'm also glad we took our own paths.
Even if the sun never rises again,
We lived every minute for ourselves.
Nobody can take that from us.
Our memories are our own!
One day I'm sure we'll own the world,
And then all of this will start to make some sense.
One day all of the secrets we kept for each other
Will all just be another part of what kept us going,
All of those wonderful, awful, crazy times,
The times and places we will never see again
That live on inside of us.
Please just don't beat me to the finish line by too much,
I can't catch up too soon,
Or I'll miss too much!
Don't make me really live without you,
I'd never do that to you.
I'm not sure I can brave this world on my own,
You'll always be in my heart,
So be sure you make it good!
Make me proud,
And make this life something we can laugh and brag about later.
When we own the world.

I really loved this poem, it explodes with so many different feelings and moves really well. It kind of rises and falls, like at the start when it feels punchy and fast and rushed and then it falls into a more menancholy and elongated feeling and it picks up with a more nostalgic, sentimental end. I especially liked the last line 'when we own the world'.
