My Gift to You

You hand me a box with a bow
so beautiful
I open it to find nothing but words
so cold and brutal
You say you picked this out
especially for me
Were you really trying to make me
feel so empty?
What happened to the promises of
yesterday?
What happened when you said that you
would stay?

So I go off alone, to think about this
gift you gave me
Then I take the same present and along with my
emotions and feelings
There are of my disdain and hate for what
has become
of you and this life along with actions that
are said and done
I place them in a box much bigger
than before
so you’ll know the anguish of searching
for what you’ll think to be more
I tie off a bow with grace and satisfaction
of knowing
that when you see what I bring you’ll have false
hopes a growing

I’ll stand and watch as you untie the ribbons
waiting to see how you react to my giving
I’ll laugh hysterically as you fumble through nothing
just to find what you thought to be more than “something”
So, tell me, how does it feel to be slapped in the face?
How does it feel to know your now just shame and disgrace?

Now take this present and leave what you
once started
Don’t ever try to give or come back to what is now
departed

Very creative and original. I love the idea of receiving his 'gift' and then giving it back. Very well put together. Best wishes and thank you for entering.

This very well written, except for the part 'there are of my disdain' - not very clear, perhaps revise it.I wish you well in the contest.Your take on the prompt is quite unusual and that is what makes me smile when I read it - the irony of it all ...giving nothing back when nothing was given.
