Otherworldly

Ebony tree branches..
waving in the strong midnight wind..
What lies so deep in your heart, your mind?
As ravens keep watch over the nightsky
you're gazing at the twinkling stars so high above.
Your feet surrounded by broken glass.
The spaciousness we inhabit feels empty
yet when I look at you standing on that balcony
my heart cries with passion for your dramatic beauty.
What is it that you have been dreaming of?
You hold those drifting, moving clouds
and that starry picturesque perfection
fast in your haunting gaze of a trespasser,
heartbreaker, playful and dreamy..
young girl in a silverish blue dress.

I envy the wind..
that kisses your skin and breathes
air into your ashen hair,
that claims this dress of yours -
the blowing silky smoothness.
What do you long for? May I join..
your world of dreams where you
get carried away by poetic illusions?
Your eyes - those profound mirrors
granted the colour of the sky by angels,
and the colour of the deep emotional ocean
by the merfolk that visit you in your imagination.
For I have witnessed you collecting seashells
as their natural beauty seem to intrigue
your visual senses, my otherworldly stargazer.

I want to be those flowers..
that have such chances to drown
in the aromatic bliss of your wavy, long hair.
Young at heart, so childlike yet
when I look at you I see an old, gracious soul
delicately smiling at me, compassionate and gentle.
The touch of your soft hands must be heavenly
for I have seen your moves that display
utter elegance and femininity.
It seems to me as if a celestial being
so peacefully trainquil, serene,
a white lily, is standing in front of me.
You appear to me..
like a revelation from the most holy sources.
But why.. why do you look so sad?

Author notes

Basically, it's a poem about me told from a perspective of second person with love/passion for the girl in the silverish dress. So many people have mentioned how spiritual, pretty etc etc I appear yet never do they seem to notice how lonely or sad I sometimes can feel. I titled the poem "Otherworldly" because that's how I feel - out of place.

Also inspired by this classic song "The Chauffeur" by Duran Duran:

  • Very good, I love the images and your unique combination of words and metaphors. It's all very pretty and solemn, like a whisper more so than at a speaking level.

I really like it, over all.

Thank you for entering and good luck.
