Anubis

His kingdom to the west,
Beyond the City of Dogs,
Upon his mountain he sits,
The Lord of the Hallowed Land,
A man's body, but a jackal's head,
His fur black, like Death an Rebirth,
Lord of the Lifeless,
Guardian of the Necropolis

An offering;
Which the King gives,
And Anubis,
Who is upon;
his mountain,
And in place;
Of embalming
The Lord of the Necropolis

Proceeder of funerals,
Embalmer of his father,
Guardian of their flesh,
And of their souls,
Protector of their graves,
Opening of their mouths,
To awaken their spirits,
And lead them to the west

An offering;
Which the King gives,
And Anubis,
Who is upon;
his mountain,
And in place;
Of embalming
The Lord of the Necropolis

Jackal ruler of the nine bows,
Each an enemy of Egypt,
Victorious over them,
Each a hostile force,
Of the Hallowed Land,
Recumbent over them
He has triumphed over them,
Jackal ruler of the bows

An offering;
Which the King gives,
And Anubis,
Who is upon;
his mountain,
And in place;
Of embalming
The Lord of the Necropolis

He who counts the hearts,
Weighing them against the feather,
To test their souls,
If they pass, to Osiris, he will lead,
If they fail, their hearts,
Fed to Ammit,
Their souls destroyed,
Lost for eternity

An offering;
Which the King gives,
And Anubis,
Who is upon;
his mountain,
And in place;
Of embalming
The Lord of the Necropolis

An offering;
Which the King gives,
And Anubis,
Who is upon;
his mountain,
And in place;
Of embalming
The Lord of the Necropolis

    This is a very nice song about Anubis of which you know very much about.
    You should check out the death metal band Nile which also uses Egyptian themes in their lyrics.

    Anyway, nice lyrics and I really like to hear them one day.

      Before I wrote this I didn't really know much about Anubis so I did my research to keep it all correct
      I've listened to Nile before, they're really good

    Yikes, there's been a sudden influx in Gods / Mythology writing in this poem;

    Although, I'd love to hear this set to music, I'm picturing [sounding in my head] chimes, deepening violins, basses, that sort of thing, but could be way off -

    You obviously have a knowledge of this guy Anubis; it shows through in your writing!

    thanks for entering!

      Good job my keyboard has violin effects on it
      & aye, I'm after a very symphonic feel with one
      & I did my research on Anubis to keep my information correct

    Bravo

    Written with obvious passion, and a knowledge of the subject. A style I found difficult at first but after reading it a few times I picked up a rythm and found myself enjoying the read immensely. Thank you for entering and good luck

    You have honored the name. Long have I dealt with those who would ridicule Egyptian culture, often insulting it, calling it "primitive", "animalistic". Long ago the name was often called, Anubis the Barker. Much fun was made, but that was because of the choice to channel animal spirits and forms along with an element of selection.

    However, this is not the case here. Your work. Is quite accurate. And, it does make me smile to see those who have not forgotten. Those who still honor. Those who still remember, what it was, that was stood for. The purpose of existence. That which mortals looked up to the great ones.

    Your quality, is far from poor. This is something, that I would love to hear. I encourage, I DEMAND, that you must lay out this symphony, this work of art to a fitting melody. For your words have held true the role in which was filled, so many years ago during the time of the Old Gods. Before, obscurity was forced by the over running of other religion and prosecution of anything else.

    I appreciate what you have done here, and you have my gratitude.

    I've been waiting for something like this. Now, I would like to hear it along with a tune.

    I have often found myself drawn to a space metal sound. There was a song, modeled after the Stargate movie. Which, many of us were featured.. (So to speak)

    And it's by Star One called the Eye of Ra. The melody of that song.. Is so.. Enchanting.

    If you have not listened to it, I encourage it. If that's your cup of tea, as they say.

      I've always found the Egyptian culture to be very beautiful,
      When I was younger I used to have a fasination with Anubis an jackals.
      I did alot of research before writing this piece, as I didn't want to end up making an accidental mockery of Anubis's great name,
      I have an intro keyboard riff which sounds Egyptiany an a guitar riff an vocal melody for the first verse written,
      But as soon as it's recorded fully I shall have it uploaded onto MySpace
      I shall indeed listen to the Eye of Ra
      An I'm glad you liked this

  • You know I like anything Egyptian based, and this is amazing.

    Wow... that was amazing... very thorough and intense ... I love this stanza.

    He who counts the hearts,
    Weighing them against the feather,
    To test their souls,
    If they pass, to Osiris, he will lead,
    If they fail, their hearts,
    Fed to Ammit,
    Their souls destroyed,
    Lost for eternity.

    It's amazing.

    This is good... I like the way you have used Egyptian Mythology. I had to read this as a poem, because I have to have the music in order to hear the song. It was a little choppy to me, and I had a hard time with the flow. Other than that, I love the idea

    Interesting subject .It's really great that you've decided to write a lyric about Egyptian mythology .I like it too ,but don't know much in fact.I was wandering if the song is going to be some kind of metal / rock or another genre . Anyway it's a nice piece .

      Well, I'm a keyboardist, an my prefered style of playing include Symphonic metal an neoclassical, so it will probably be symphonic metal, an I intend on writing more Egyptian influenced songs before I start on my Viking based an Celtic based ones
