I’ve known the silence of the world
and the heartache that can cling
to the bitter bites of winter
that form so fragile off of lips
and teeth and tongues.
I’ve known the taste in your mouth
and the looks in your eyes,
I’ve heard the words you’ve whispered
when your head is on my stomach
and we’re fighting with the act of sleep.
I’ve felt the pain that secrets cause
and the burden that trails behind,
and I’ve known a hundred thousand times
that I could never share my thoughts
without you taking on the weight of my world.
So I will feel the chill of passing stars
and straighten my face to shut you out,
I’ll apologize, dance and sway with my mind,
and still believe that you’re just a maybe…
but when you go, I know the memory will break my bones.

Author notes
... I can't write much these days... nothing's coming out like it should... too many thoughts going on maybe, I can't seem to straighten anything out...
Comments and critique much appreciated
