Mercurio’s Lament To Lady Sarah / Or The Fruits Of Lipstick On A Pig

“ ‘tis not so deep as a well, nor so wide as
church-door, but ‘tis enough. ‘twill serve…”
        Romeo And Juliet
        Act III, Scene 1

And if my name and nature were not so
mercurial, I might not have drawn my
blade when he offended you on this day:
to say your lips were porcine, painted
with such gloss to dupe men to believe you
were yet fresh and nubile still in manner.
By these insults I was forthwith made mad
and to the clash of swords went I gladly
to seek justice and relief for your fair honour.
Such was a justice deemed in that short spate
when rapier’s tongue pierced flesh and vital parts,
whence issues forth this crimson stream withal:
my days, my dreams, my breath, my love for you.
Unto this draining vessel clasp your heart
as arid earth absconds with all treasure –
I was yours by every means and measure

this is something else! I love how this was applied to real life.

    Very clever indeed.

Good luck, thanks and well done

are you satirizing Sarah Palin here or do you truly find her more kissable than Lady Hillary. I can't really tell.

This began as a tongue-in-cheek topical reference to Palin -- but then I got carried away with the linguistic elements. Ergo, it's not effective as satire.
I thought Palin was an interesting choice for McCain until she opened her mouth. Clearly, Hillary Clinton is better equipped to be President. As to the kissability of either, I am an old man and beyond such considerations.

I have always identified with Mercurio, being a Gemini. You have shown him well, and also the fatal movement of time from the moment a sword is drawn.

As always, the final line wraps up and ties a bow on your poem. Beautiful.

Mercutio was always my fav, probably because I used to be a hot-head who liked to fight. The years and a few ass-whippings have mellowed me and I no longer seek the bubble reputation in the canon's mouth. Still, I thank you for your sweet words.
